Built around 1910, the building was originally a warehouse-style building with “good bones,” said Gregory Sharp of Case Development, the Bhallas’ architect and builder. But the building was in disrepair when they bought it, said Mrs. Bhalla, and over several years they rebuilt it almost entirely. Other than the foundation and two side walls, “nothing in the building is original,” she said. “Every floor joist in the building is brand new.” She declined to say how much the project cost.
The four-bedroom house has a full-floor primary suite, nine fireplaces and multiple outdoor terraces. Because the Bhallas enjoy entertaining, Mr. Sharp said he designed the house, which has six floors plus a basement, with a combination of formal living areas and private spaces.
Located on the first floor, the kitchen has barrel ceilings, a fireplace, a custom banquette and a 90-inch Lacanche stove, according to the listing. “It’s definitely a kitchen for someone who knows how to use it,” said Mrs. Bhalla, an avid cook who said she bakes cookies by the hundred for Christmas each year...READ MORE……..
